How to do Butt Welds on TIG/Tungsten Inert Gas

How to do Butt Welds on TIG/Tungsten Inert Gas
Butt welds technique is typically same with other technique on TIG/Tungsten Inert Gas/GTAW technique. If welder use joint which two sheets were positioned edge to edge with no gap the technique would be butt weld. Butt welds technique generally use for material thinner than 2mm. The basic Butt Welding technique is identical to laying beads on the surface of plate in the TIG/Tungsten Inert Gas/GTAW technique. A tight arc, steady torch movement, and filler rod added to the very front of the weld pool.

To control welding penetration use root gap on welding joint. More filler rod needs to be added during welding process to fill the gap, and tacking the two sheets before welding process requires a bit of technique.

How to Tack weld
If two sheets materials are too close together can be tacked using a tight arc length without problems. If two sheets materials have a gap there is a tendency for 2 separate pools to form, melting away both sheets material without joining to form a single weld puddle.

The welding filler rod needs to be added very shortly after starting the arc to avoid burning back the sheets materials.
